Vintage Coin Holograms

Back in February we awarded some Litiholo “Instant Hologram” Film to our Creative Give-a-Way winners. Thought you’d like to see some of the “fruits of the free film”. Take a look at the video put together by our 1st Place Winner, making some excellent holograms of his grandfather’s vintage coin collection.  And a gracious winner too, adding his thanks to Litiholo for the film.  Nice work!

  1. We have been making coin holograms for years at Northwestern University. Dr. Tung Jeong (deceased) at Lake Forest College taught me how to make a hologram of both sides of the coin in one two-channel hologram. Expose one side of the coin in the usual way, but before developing the hologram flip the coin and tilt the holographic plate or film ever so slightly. Make a second exposure. Process the film as usual. You will be able to see one side of the coin normally viewing with a white light source. When the hologram is tilted in the viewing light, the other side of the coin will pop into view. Care should be taken to replace the coin in its inverted state in exactly the same spot so that both sides appear in the same spot. This is not necesary for success. It just makes it more magical.
